A crumb catcher bread board gives loose crumbs somewhere to go while you slice a loaf. The Kitchen Academics Crumb Catcher Cutting Board has a lift-out slatted top above a tray. Crumbs fall through the gaps and collect underneath.
How does a crumb catcher work?
Place your loaf on the slatted surface and slice as normal. Loose crumbs drop through the openings into the tray below. When you finish, lift out the slatted top and empty the collected crumbs. The top lifts out; there is no sliding drawer.
It helps keep the mess together, although crumbs left on the board or worktop may still need wiping away.
Useful for slicing and serving bread
Use the board for brown bread, crusty loaves or bread at the breakfast table. You can slice and serve on the same board, with loose crumbs collected beneath the slats until you clear away.
What size is the Kitchen Academics board?
Our Crumb Catcher measures 37cm long × 21.5cm wide × 3cm high. Compare these dimensions with your worktop or table space, and leave room to lift out the top.
How do you clean it?
Lift out the slatted top, empty the tray, and wash in warm soapy water. The board is made from natural bamboo and its listed care method is handwashing. Clean beneath the slats as well as the slicing surface.
What should you look for in a bread board?
- Usable size: enough room for your bread and available counter space.
- Easy emptying: access to the tray underneath.
- Cleaning access: a lift-out top helps you reach beneath the slats.
- Serving use: a board you can bring to the table after slicing.
